Sidi Bou Said

"Sidi Bou Said (Arabic: سيدي بو سعيد‎) a town in northern Tunisia located about 20 km from the capital, Tunis. Named for a religious figure who lived there, Abou Said ibn Khalef ibn Yahia Ettamini el Beji (previously it was called Jabal el-Menar). The town itself is a tourist attraction and is known for its extensive use of blue and white. Souvenirs can be bought in the main street. It can be reached by a TGM train, which runs from Tunis to La Marsa. Sidi Bou Said has a reputation as a town of artists. Artists who have lived in or visited Sidi Bou Said include Paul Klee, Gustave-Henri Jossot, August Macke, Saro Lo Turco and Louis Moillet. Tunisian artists in Sidi Bou Said are members of École de Tunis (painting school of Tunis), such as Yahia Turki, Brahim Dhahak and Ammar Farhat. French philosopher Michel Foucault lived there for a number of years while teaching at the University of Tunis. In the 12th century/13th century AD Abou Said ibn Khalef ibn Yahia Ettamini el Beji arrived in the village of Jabal el-Menar and established a sanctuary. After his death in 1231, he was buried there. In the 18th century Turkish governors of Tunis and wealthy citizens of the latter built residences in Sidi Bou Said. During the 1920s, Rodolphe d’Erlanger applied the blue-white theme all over the town."

"Sidi Bou Said ou Sidi Bousaid (em árabe: سيدي بو سعيد; em francês: Sidi Bou Saïd) é uma vila e município da costa nordeste da Tunísia, situada aproximadamente 20 km a nordeste do centro de Tunes. Em 2004 o município tinha 4 793 habitantes. É uma vila muito pitoresca, tanto pelas suas casas brancas e azuis tradicionais, como pela paisagem em que se insere, ocupando uma falésia sobre o mar Mediterrâneo, que domina o golfo de Tunes e a zona de Cartago. É muito frequente ver fotografias de Sidi Bou Said em todo o tipo de material de promoção turística da Tunísia. A vila tem o nome de um santo muçulmano que viveu nos séculos XII e XIII — Abu Saïd Khalaf ibn Yahya el-Tamimi el-Béji, mais conhecido como Sidi Bou Said — cuja sepultura e zaouïa se encontra no centro da vila e que ficou em ruínas depois de ter sido incendiado em 12 janeiro de 2013 após ameaças destruição por parte de salafistas. É conhecida como local de artistas, e de facto foram muitas os artistas que viveram em Sidi Bou Said, como por exemplo Paul Klee, Henri Gustave Jossot, August Macke ou Louis Moillet. Os artistas tunisinos que viveram em Sidi Bou Said são membros da "Escola de Tunes" e entre eles encontram-se Yahia Turki, Ammar Farhat e Brahim Dhahak. O filósofo Michel Foucault também viveu ali vários anos, quando era professor na Universidade de Tunes."

After we visited Tunies we had lunch in Sidi Bou Said to visit this beautiful white and blue houses. The view is amazing right? Since this day was colder I chose to wear this comfy sweater that was from my mom when she was pregnant of me :)
Depois da visita a Tunis, almoçámos em Sidi Bou Said para visitar estas casas lindas todas azuis e brancas. A vista é de cortar a respiração! Já que estava mas frio neste dia, decidi usar esta camisola bem confortável que era da minha mãe quando estava grávida de mim :)
